St Olave's Prep School is a happy, co-educational and non-selective independent school for children from 3 to 11 years old. There is a palpable sense of community at St Olave's, and visitors often comment on the warm and happy atmosphere, and the family feel that they notice around the school. Our holistic approach to education means that we place great importance upon the intellectual, physical, social and spiritual development of each child, and our talented and dedicated team of teachers nurture and inspire the children so that they flourish academically and emotionally.
We encourage our children to develop a ‘growth mindset’ approach towards their learning so that they appreciate the value of practice, hard work and responding to feedback from their teachers and peers. Our pupils are encouraged to take risks, to opt for challenging activities and to view any mistakes that they make along the way as valuable opportunities for further learning, rather than something to be afraid of.
When our pupils emerge at the end of their education and enter the world of work, it will be a very different environment to the one which exists today. We provide opportunities for our children to be curious and collaborate, to be compassionate, to show commitment to challenging activities and to be courageous when things don’t go to plan. We encourage our pupils to be creative so that they can apply their learning to new activities and questions. We believe that these qualities of compassion, commitment, collaboration, creativity, curiosity and courage will enable each child to make a valuable contribution to the workplace of the future.
Our children are well prepared for the 11+ examinations in Year Six and we work closely with parents to select the right school for each child. All pupils are equipped with the essential qualities of kindness and compassion so that, when each child leaves, he or she is skilled and confident to make the most of all the opportunities on offer.
We form strong and trusting partnerships with our parents. We operate an ‘Open Door Policy', where parents’ comments, views, contributions and suggestions are valued. We also welcome parents’ direct support with activities such as hearing children read, leading cultural sessions or career aspiration workshops and have a very active Fundraising and Social Committee.
This website will give you a glimpse of life at St Olave's. Please do explore it thoroughly and I hope you will be inspired to come along to one of our Open Mornings or book a personal tour with me to see for yourself what makes our school such a special place.
I very much look forward to meeting you and your children at St Olave's in the near future.
